GRAD Scholars and Scholar club

One meeting of Scholars took place on December 9. The majority of Aldine Ninth Scholars have participated in a variety of college and career events on and off campus during this first semester. The Top 20 Most Involved Scholars for the first semester were recognized, which in part, included earning a Badge for College Investigation or Career Planning. Scholars reflected on what they have done during this first semester of the school year. A discussion took place about having a personal vision, about being goal-oriented, working hard as a student and giving back of themselves. This month some Scholars were part of a large group of students that participated in a field trip to the Museum of Natural Science. The field trip to the Museum was coordinated and lead by the Aldine Ninth Grade Science Department.

STUDENT WORKSHOP

Information on College Admissions Process:  On December 10, students were presented information about the general process and requirements for applying for a college or university. For example, SAT and ACT scores and how it relates to the college admissions process. Students were also informed about Top 10% automatic/assured admissions.

CAREER CONVERSATION

A Career Conversation took place on December 12. Guest speaker spoke about their experience with a local non-profit social service agency. Students were presented information about social work, social services, mental health and community service. She encouraged students to volunteer, give back to our community and develop their interest. Students also enjoyed donuts and refreshments.

PARENT WORKSHOP

A Parent Workshop “Family Night” took place on December 16. A dinner and conversation took place about high school Graduation Plan, the five Endorsements, Career Exploration and how to bridge all that with the right college. Together, students and parents navigated a career exploration tool that helped answer a couple of questions about their child.  What kind of career is a possible best fit for my child? How can my child have that career?
