This week, some very special students were invited to a donut party in the library. The party was to celebrate their participation and achievement in a challenge titled, “Donut” Stop Reading. At the beginning of the school year, our ILS, Mrs. Ramirez, challenged all students to read 30 young adult books. Many students have begun the challenge and were celebrated for their efforts and encouraged to persevere to the end of the year.
Students were awarded certificates, a new book, and a goody bag. Three top students each received a gift card. They were Dillon J., Noel P., and Melissa J.
Students keep a keep a digital log of the books they read. They also visit with Mrs. Ramirez to chat about each book. These conversations help build positive relationships between students and the librarian, which leads to book recommendations and opening doors to new genres. Students are looking for the end of year celebration in May.
